Absolutely amazing work you've done on this game, story; that much is already evident.

Oh dear, now everyone's going to wonder why I'm not claiming on Day One.

Pizzaguys have nine lives too. I've literally been shot at IRL.

Ok folks, my usual defenses would seem to be missing here. We're allowed to quote role PMs, we were not provided cover roles, and this is a game with well-known non-duplicate characters. Not to mention I'm the new guy here so I doubt the other players will think twice about killing me.
As such, in the event of being forced to claim, I will need some advice on how to react to that. I feel all naked and exposed with no host-provided barriers preventing a day one loss due to mass claim.
What do you guys typically do in this situation?

Your defenses are in better shape than you think.
Storyteller's PMs are works of art. His style may not be quite inimitable, but an average person won't be able to imitate it. So he writes cover PMs. There are four, all supposedly vanilla.
I suggest that we discuss who needs them the most, so that, by the middle of Day 1, we can claim if necessary.
Idle, don't rush into claiming, but pick one of the four and be ready to.
A historical note. If you read the PM acknowledgements, you may notice that Drain Bead aid she had "geen given" her role PM. That's not a typo. In the original Arkham Asylum game, she was one of the do-gooders, and used The Ventriloquist as a cover role.
She took a voluntary post restriction to go with it - she replaced the letter B with G all the time. (She forgot a couple of times.) That doesn't work in this game. Storyteller stated there are no post restrictions in this game, so don't claim one.
Bear in mind that people might jump to the conclusion that, because it was a cover role the first time, it will be a cover role the second.
Also bear in mind the risks we were warned of.
ETA: I could put up a defence by precedent in that case.

OK I did not see that we had cover roles. Excellent; with something to work with I should be fine, if posting your role means anything at all. I remember back in the days when we had lots of games where posting the role PM was allowed, I used to forge role PMs all the time by modifying the game host's PM. I remember I did this in a game where I was a townie whose role was critical to the team's efforts... I claimed to be something else entirely and I made it specific. I managed to stay undetected the entire game while I was talking to the head scumbag since day one behind the scenes. Had I not given myself a cover I'd have been the first murdered party. OK, that all being said, I am a female character, and new to this board, and I already have a reputation of being particularly slimy since the past game I was in where my scum team won. As such, folks will be less reluctant to scan/lynch/block/vig-kill me, and I feel that out of all of us here, I will need the better cover role. Preferably Poison Ivy because I know who the hell that is, and I can turn that into a townie power role with no thought whatsoever. I could also try to just, straight, claim Catwoman. It's in the realm of "too bold to be fake". Catwoman is recognizeable as a villainous character and I wouldn't have to lie about anything except my alignment. And, it's not a lie if you believe it. I'm totally a townie, you guys. But I will refrain from being too bold unless I don't have time at all to discuss things with you fine folks. Be warned I am generally a risk-taker player, I am generally successful with my gambles, but I still don't want to do something that blows up in my face and hurts the team unnecessarily. My trademark style is to be risky, if I start playing cautious someone will know something is up. I might be able to mask it by claiming power role but if I don't die, that's going to be the end of my free ride and the lynch countdown will begin on my ass. I'm our roleblocker and that can be passed off as a townie role, but have you folks noticed a pattern? Almost every single scum team has a roleblocker on it in an all-power game. Further, a claimed roleblocker is a priority kill for a scum team. Claiming roleblocker, IMO, is very much like claiming doctor. It's just suicidal for a scum to do. As such, I'd like to be able to claim to be something else. Suggestions for common roles in games on this board which the scum usually do not have on their team?

Commence the discussion here. I wouldn't worry too much, pizza. Most of us here are risk takers who are also frequent lynch targets. I find that sometimes works in my favor as it makes others hesitant to vote for me. I'll look everything over better when I'm at my computer.

Story, can we create a "What we know" thread to detail what we know about alignments, powers, etc without having to repost it in a Day or Night thread?[/color]

As such, I'd like to be able to claim to be something else. Suggestions for common roles in games on this board which the scum usually do not have on their team? We've had just about everything on the Scum side. Paranoid Doc might be one that is rarely Scum since it causes one to be very thoughtful as Town. And it might fit in with your roleblocking should a watcher/tracker peek at you. Might be a Town role in the game, however.

Recreating the roles from the previous game:
Town: Killer Croc - Scotsman (P) Bane - bodyguard (P) Poison Ivy - Doctor (P) Scarecrow - Paranoid Doc (P/B) Clayface - Roleblocker (B) Mr Freeze - Roleblocker (B) Ra's al Ghul - Vote Charger (O) Two Face - 50/50 Cop/Vig (I/K) Harley Quinn - Alignment Cop (I) The Penguin - Mason Chief (M) Rehydrated Pirate #1 - Mason (M) Rehydrated Pirate #2 - Mason (M) Rehydrated Pirate #3 - Mason (M)
So, 4 Protecting roles 3 Blocking roles .5 Killing roles 1.5 Investigating Roles i Vote-tampering Role 4 Masons
Scum: Commisioner Gordon - Detective (Alignment or name)/Hidden Scum Batman - Godfather/UnNightKillable when not performing an action/Jack of All Trades Alfred - Crazy Goon (can take out one person voting for him when lynched) Nightwing - Back-up JOAT Robin - weak weak weak weak detective Batgirl - Goon
PFK: Catwoman - Survivor Joker - Serial Killer Hush - Serial Killer Mad Hatter - Mad Bomber
~~~~~~~
Not sure what bearing this might have...
I have a problem with my role; namely that, in the last game, the Penguin was a traitor to the Baddies, or would have been if things had gone right. Thus, if I get outed things are going to be a bit sticky.
However, what I think would serve me best is if we could noodle out a reasonable power for me, rather than claiming a vanilla role. After all, the Penguin is a a name of some notoriety in Gotham's underworld. Right?
Also, ideas on who might be recruitable please. Float them as you get them.
